The best remedy for constipation during pregnancy is the herb sat isabgol (psyllium husks). Take 1 teaspoon with a glass of warm milk.


A cup of hot milk with 1 teaspoon of ghee added is also effective. Ghee and milk mixed together is a wonderful combination for gentle, mild laxative action during pregnancy.





Simple measures to be taken to cure constipation:

  • A pregnant Mother should take diet comprising of high fiber content, fruits and boiled vegetables to prevent constipation.
  • Ayurveda emphasizes the intake of milk during pregnancy. a pregnant woman should have three glasses of milk per day. If there seems to be risk of glucose level to be high, then it can be replaced with diluted milk without sugar. Milk always tends to enable a laxed bowel and provides the appropriate nutrients required during pregnant.
  • Coffee should be necessarily avoided. And other carbonated drinks should not be taken as it may cause heart burn and indigestion.
  • Drink plenty of water each day. Drink meat soup than fried one. Walk for a few minutes after your meal. Don't lie down immediately after a meal.
  • Can take whole grain bread instead of the ordinary one as it is rich in fiber.
  • Don't suppress your natural urges.

One of the most effective herbal remedies for constipation, triphala, should not be used during pregnancy. It will irritate the child, and the baby will become hyperactive.
Also, do not take castor oil or any other drastic purgative during pregnancy; like triphala, it will make the baby hyperactive.


Similarly Aloe vera should not be used during prenancy. It will also make the baby hyperactive in the uterus.
